The Club

Edinburgh University Fencing club
is currently the largest university fencing club in Scotland, and the most successful University Club in the Land. In 2007/2008 we have 3 teams in the British University Championships Finals - something that is pretty unheard of! We also have had much success in the Scottish University Competitions.

When do we train?
We train 4 times a week with a Beginners' session taking place on Wednesday afternoon and an Intermediates' session on Sunday afternoon. There is a Squad Training session that takes place on Tuesday evening. For more details please contact the two captains here.
More details of the sessions can be found here.
The club has its own kit and weapons so if you are new to the sport you don't have to worry. You should wear a t-shirt, tracksuit bottoms and non marking trainers.

What competitions do we compete in?
The Club currently has 4 teams in the BUSA Teams Competitions. The Ladies' A Team currently compete in the BUSA Premier League North and the Men's A Team is currently in the BUSA Premier League Play-Offs. Should they be successful the Men's A Team will enter the BUSA Premier League North at the beginning of 2008/2009. In addition to the two A teams, there are two B teams that compete in the BUSA Scottish Conferences.
Many club members compete in the BUSA Individuals' and have constantly been placed in medal winning positions.
In addition to the BUSA programme, EUFC sends its club members to the three SUS events (SUS Beginners, SUS Individauls & SUS Teams). EUFC has had consistent success in these competitions.
Club members also regularly enter Open competitions and are highly succesful. Friendlies and Tours have been organised in the past, so there is plenty of fencing for everyone of all standards.

How much is Membership?
Subscription fees for the 2007/08 season are £38.00 per year or £28.00 per semester*.
This membership fee entitles† you to compete in SUS and BUSA competitions of which there are many during the season. Private lessons with our coaches cost £3.00, for approximately a 20 minute session.
Note: if you are not a 'Full' member of the Pleasance gym, a CSE Associate fee will be collected in January. This is a fee the CSE charges each club member for hall usage, and will be £28 this year. Remember that if you are an "Off-Peak" member of the Pleasance gym you still have to pay this CSE fee.
* Note that due to Sports Union regulations the club is obliged to charge members who are not matriculated members of Edinburgh University a higher fee. £55 for the year, £35 for a semester. Please contact the club for details. † Other non-club fees may be applicable (such as insurance).
